MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN
Assessing various mechanisms to design a solution for a quick disconnect device for lower limb prostheses

QUICKFIT
- A quick disconnect device for lower limb prostheses
- Group project
- Materials: Aluminum rod, bike clamp
- Goal: Design a lightweight device that allows users of lower limb prostheses to quickly and safely disconnect part of their leg for enhanced maneuverability and comfort
- Worked closely with Stanford prosthetic clinician Gary Berke
- Brainstormed several ideas for quick disconnect
- Modeled favorite solution in Solidworks
- 3D printed prototypes
- Turned down pylon (shaft) on lathe
- CNC machined features onto aluminum shaft
- Video below shows our prototype (left) in comparison to the current market solution (right)
